Gnosis Pay is the most literal implementation of "spend crypto without giving up custody": your funds sit in a Safe smart account you control, and the card debits that account on-chain when you pay. For European and UK users who hold euro or pound stablecoins, it is one of the few cards that never asks you to park money with an exchange.

    The model in one paragraph

You deploy a Safe account on Gnosis Chain, fund it with EURe or GBPe, and link a Visa card to it. When you tap, the transaction is authorised against the on-chain balance and settled in fiat with the merchant. You can see every payment as an on-chain transaction — an audit trail no custodial card gives you.

    Fees and cost structure

    • Conversion: spending a euro stablecoin in euros avoids conversion entirely — that is the core cost advantage.
    • FX: spending outside your stablecoin currency adds a markup, as with any card.
    • On-chain costs: Gnosis Chain fees are negligible, but you still need a small gas balance.
    • Card issuance: a one-off cost for the physical card is typical; check current pricing before ordering.

    Strengths

    1. True self-custody. No issuer can freeze a balance it never holds.
    2. Native EUR/GBP stablecoins. Ideal for Europeans who earn or hold in euros rather than dollars.
    3. Transparency. Every authorisation is verifiable on-chain.
    4. Regulated rails. Visa acceptance with an EEA-facing compliance setup under MiCA.

    Limitations to know before applying

    • Onboarding is heavier. Full KYC plus a smart-account setup is more work than downloading an exchange app.
    • Asset range is narrow. This is a stablecoin card, not a "spend any of 200 tokens" card.
    • Cashback is not the selling point. Reward-focused users will do better with an exchange card.
    • Region-locked. Primarily EEA and UK — check the current country list.

    Gnosis Pay vs MetaMask Card

Both are self-custody, but they solve different problems. Gnosis Pay is euro/pound-native and built around Safe accounts. MetaMask Card is dollar-stablecoin-native and built around the wallet most people already use. If you are paid in euros and spend in euros, Gnosis Pay removes an FX layer that MetaMask cannot.

    Who should get it

    • EU/UK residents holding EURe or GBPe who want zero-conversion everyday spending.
    • Users who refuse exchange custody on principle or for risk reasons.
    • Anyone who wants an on-chain record of card spending for accounting.

If you want cashback, ATM-heavy travel use, or support for dozens of tokens, look at custodial options in our comparison table instead — filter for zero-fee cards and check the region column against your country.
